Mary Hibbard Stack later found a copy of a letter written by Mary Swan Hibbard in which she states she was born in Dale, Wyoming Co., NY. 1900 census: Both parents born in NYS. She lived in North Collins, Erie County, NY in 1928. She died on January 28, 1964 in a nursing home, Harlem Road, Buffalo, NY. Per Mary Hibbard Stack verbal 1996-1997: Grandmother Mary (Swan) Hibbard was in Eden Valley Nursing Home, Eden Valley, NY. Later she was moved to a Nursing Home on Harlem Rd., Buffalo, NY. We believe that probably was her place of death. Obituary: (clipping in Gwen Hibbard's scrap book, the obit was most likely taken from the Gowanda newspaper since Gwen subscribed to that newspaper for many, many years after she left North Collins. One similar clipping was from the Buffalo News and a smaller notice was clipped from the Medina Journal.) Mary M. Hibbard, formerly of North Collins, died Jan. 28, 1964. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alfred Welch of Eagle, NY., two sons, Harland Hibbard and Hoyt Hibbard, Jr. of Buffalo; also 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her husband Hoyt and two sons Darwin and Hamilton Hibbard preceded her in death. Mrs. Hibbard was a charter member and a past matron of Arcana Chapter, O.E.S. Funeral services were held from the Wentland Funeral Home, Thurs., Jan. 30 at 2 P.M. The Rev. Bruce Brown officiated. Interment was in the North Collins Cemetery. She was buried on January 30, 1964 in North Collins Cemetery, North Collins, NY. Burial location: Section B, Lot 41, grave #7, aka North Center section, row 12. She was a homemaker in North Collins, Erie County, NY. She was an owner of a household (antiques) shop in North Collins, Erie County, NY. Per Dee Hibbard, verbal Sept.1996 to Mary Hibbard Stack: Mary Swan was an only child, she lived in Applington, Iowa for a while, no dates. Letter of Aug. 1954 written by Mary Swan to Wyoming Co. (NY) Historian states "I was born in Dale April 9, 1872. My people moved to Iowa when I was 2-1/2 yrs. of age, came back to NY State in 1884." (That would mean Darwin, Caroline and Mary Swan were in Iowa from fall of 1874 until 1884.) Grace Korthols, current North Collins Town Historian (to Mary Hibbard verbal summer 1996): Grace lived in the Hibbard family homestead called the "Brick House" on Main St., North Collins. Grace and her aunt had two rooms in the upstairs back while Grace was attending school. Grace recalls she had a date with a fellow. When he called at the house for his date with Grace, my grandma (Mary M. (Swan) Hibbard) told the fellow she was not home and he left. (I guess Grandma didn't care for Grace's beau?) Regardless, Grace remained an old friend of the Hibbard family. Grace recalled taking a trip to Philadelphia with my parents, Hamilton and Gwendolyn (Burk) Hibbard. Parents: Darwin E.
